History

The league began in 1984 after a name change from the South Suburban Murray Football League and was headquartered in Perth's south eastern suburbs, for a period at Lathlain Park - the home ground for the Perth Football Club. It was notable as Perth's most popular Sunday competition; the West Australian Football League, the premier West Australian competition, is primarily played on Saturdays. Each week, around 5,000 spectators attended Sunday Football League matches.
